Haven Studios is a video game development studio based in Montreal. In May 2021, we embarked on a journey to create Haven as a small team with big ambitions. Our goal was to build a studio of great people where together we could make the kind of games we've always wanted to make – games we've always wanted to play. At Haven, we believe that caring, adaptability, and unwavering optimism lead to creative excellence. We are a hybrid studio that promotes flexibility, focus and collaboration among our teams.
Haven joined the PlayStation Studios family as Sony's first game development team in Canada in 2022.
We have made amazing progress in a short period of time thanks to our talented and passionate team and their excellent contributions. Our first game, Fairgames, is in development for PlayStation and PC. Fairgames is a competitive multiplayer action heist game with a vision to build a systemic, evolving world focused on freedom, thrill, and play, that will entertain and engage players for years to come.
Title - Senior UX Designer
We are looking for an experienced UX Designer to join our team. You will work closely with the Game Director and the UX Director to help create and develop the design direction for the next generation of games. You'll develop and design user experience rules, menu flows, and accessibility guidelines that translate the vision into a playable experience. You will work in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment to ensure the delivery of high-quality features, always putting the needs of consumers first.
Direction
The Senior UX Designer will report to the Producer.
Role and Responsibilities
* Work closely with the Game Director to set the direction of the game design and break it down into a clear set of features, deliverables, and tasks.
* Develop the user experience vision for the game with a focus on user interfaces, menu flows, accessibility, and social interactions.
* Translating concepts into user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes at all stages of production to create exceptional, accessible, and innovative game experiences.
* Work as part of a cross-functional team and liaise regularly within that team, as well as with management and other creative and technical co-leads, to ensure work is cohesive.
* Communicate the design through a variety of means to ensure that the intent of the gameplay and the work to be done are well understood by all team members.
* Set up intuitive systems and define the player journey for features that complement gameplay.
* Create, document, and maintain a UX style guide.
* Implement basic logic and flow into plans to test concepts.
* Keep up to date with UX best practices and promote UX throughout the studio.
Experience and skills required
* In-depth experience as a UX designer with at least one marketed title in this field.
* Excellent understanding of UX/UI principles, player behavior, and player engagement.
* Understanding and experience in effectively integrating user data and metrics into the design.
* Excellent ability to organize and structure own work and communicate effectively with a diverse audience.
* Ability to react quickly to agile production needs and directions.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience as a UX designer on at least one title.
* Experience in the design and development of an online game, with a good understanding of best practices in game-as-a-service design.
* Good knowledge of all aspects and dependencies related to UX, UI, integration, accessibility and social systems.
* Experience in the field of engines would be a plus.
