What it means to be a Design Lead
We’re looking for a Design Lead to guide and elevate design across the Redbrick portfolio. Reporting to the CMO, you’ll help set the design direction on key projects, ensure design systems are consistent and scalable, and collaborate closely with marketing, product, and engineering teams.
This role will provide additional leadership and support for the team during the Creative Director’s parental leave, with the opportunity to continue long-term if it’s a strong fit.
This is a role for someone who loves being close to the craft and also thrives in helping others grow.
Responsibilities
* Provide creative direction and feedback on projects spanning web, brand, and product UI design
* Collaborate with marketing and product stakeholders to ensure design supports business goals
* Partner with developers to ensure design systems and tokens translate into code
* Support and mentor designers through regular 1:1s, design critiques, coaching and feedback
* Work with the Project Manager to balance workloads across the team, ensuring projects are resourced appropriately
* Contribute to and evolve shared design systems and processes for consistency across brands
* Represent the design team in cross-functional meetings, advocating for thoughtful, user-centred design
* Help foster a collaborative, supportive, and growth-oriented team culture
After 1 week
* Meet the team and understand current projects, processes, and tools
* Get familiar with the Redbrick portfolio companies and their design needs
After 1 month
* Take ownership of design reviews and critiques
* Begin supporting 1:1s and helping balance team workloads
* Contribute directly to design projects (marketing or product)
After 6 months
* Lead design direction on high-impact projects across the portfolio
* Team is supported and thriving under your leadership during the parental leave
* Design systems are more cohesive and consistently applied across products and brands
What we’d like to see in you
Every Redbricker has three things in common: we’re curious, passionate, and good-humoured. We balance hard work with good, old-fashioned fun. As a Design Lead, here are some extra specialties we’re on the lookout for:
* Experience: 8+ years in design, with at least 2 years of people management (or equivalent mentoring/leadership experience).
* Portfolio: Strong end-to-end design work across brand, web, and product/UI, demonstrating ideation, UX, and consistency in creating and applying design systems. We’ll ask you to walk us through a project or two from start to finish to highlight your process and impact.
* Tools: Proficiency with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Asana, Slack, and Google Workspace.
* Industry background: Experience in SaaS or software, ideally with both marketing design (websites, campaigns, emails, social) and product/UI design. A background spanning both web and product is preferred.
* Collaboration: Comfortable working cross-functionally with product, marketing, and development teams; familiarity with design tokens and cross-platform consistency; approachable, communicative, and confident in presenting work and direction.
* Leadership: Empathetic mentor who can support designers at different levels, balance strategy with hands-on execution, and make clear, confident design decisions.
* Mindset: Organized and proactive, able to set structure while staying adaptable and calm under pressure.
