Experience Design Intern

The hourly pay rate for this position is $33/hr.

We offer a flexible working environment to balance the need to work independently, with some days that may require in-person collaboration at our office.

The Build Internship Program in Toronto will run from June 5th to August 25th.


Who You Will Work With 

Slalom Build’s 2023 Internship program is a 12-week paid program focused on learning and practicing Slalom Build’s Experience Design capability model under the direction of our designers and design leaders. Slalom Build will select an internal project designed to provide lift across the organization and leverage modern technologies to realize that vision.

Selected interns will leverage modern methodologies and technologies in an agile delivery model modelled from Slalom Build’s full-time practitioners. Interns will be leveraging design software such as Figma, Adobe XD (or similar) to support our product teams and their understanding of optimal interactions and experiences. This structure creates not only a valuable real-world experience for designers to up their expertise and capability, but also mutually benefits Slalom as an organization.


What You Will Do 
  • Hands-on experience with the latest XD methods and technologies
  • Team collaboration and ideation
  • Develop information architecture, visual & interaction designs, design components, and prototypes to support product feature work
  • Work with Build design leads for product vision
  • Data analysis to discover and synthesize new insights
  • Work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, agile project environment with a small, focused team
  • Document product experience(s) with an eye to technical feasibility


What You Will Bring 
  • Student working towards a UX, Design, Visual Communication, or related degree, with Junior or later standing and an expected graduation date within one year of the internship program. Alternatively, a recent graduate of a Design/UX bootcamp is also acceptable.
  • Online Portfolio containing examples of digital product design you were involved with creating.
  • Comfort with Figma, Adobe XD, or similar design software
  • Knowledge of human centered design practices
  • Desire and ability to create new products or services
  • Displays a passion for what you do and a drive to improve
  • Strong love of design to solve problems for people.


Bonus Skills 
  • Experience building component-based design systems for multiple designers to work with
  • Experience with mobile and/or web development
  • Experience with agile development principles
