Lead UX Designer

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Lead UX Designer, you will leverage your deep expertise in user research and design to drive the creation of intuitive, effective, and user-centric software solutions tailored to the needs of utility field operations professionals. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and stakeholders, to ensure that our products not only meet but exceed user expectations. You will engage directly with our users to test the usability and usefulness of product design options and gather insights that will drive the creation of intuitive and impactful software solutions. Your insights will help shape the strategic direction of our product offerings, directly impacting the efficiency and effectiveness of utility operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Duties and Responsibilities

User Research

  • Partner with product managers on comprehensive user research efforts to understand the needs, challenges, and behaviors of utility field operations professionals.
  • Design and conduct qualitative and quantitative research, including user interviews, usability testing, and field studies.
  • Analyze research data to identify patterns, user pain points, and opportunities for design improvements.
  • Develop detailed user personas, journey maps, and other deliverables to communicate research findings effectively to stakeholders.
Design and Prototyping
  • Design user flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes with input from product managers and engineers to ensure user and technical requirements are considered.
  • Create high-fidelity visual designs that align with our brand and enhance user experience.
  • Apply design thinking principles to solve complex problems and optimize user interactions within our SaaS platform.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with product teams to ensure user insights are integrated into product development processes and decisions.
  • Facilitate workshops and design sessions to drive alignment and foster a user-centered design culture.
  • Advocate for user needs and ensure that design decisions are informed by research and user feedback.
  • Partner with engineering to make implementation of UX design as easy as possible through adoption of design systems and component libraries.
Continuous Improvement
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to UX/UI design and user research.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of design changes and iterate based on user feedback and performance metrics.
  • Lead and mentor junior designers and researchers, providing guidance and support to enhance their skills and contributions.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Document research findings, design processes, and decisions clearly and comprehensively.
  • Present research insights, design concepts, and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership in a compelling and actionable manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in User Experience Design, Product Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Psychology or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in user research and design, with a strong portfolio showcasing relevant work, especially in the SaaS companies or field operations software.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or similar.
  • Experience with user research methodologies, including usability testing, user interviews, and survey design.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey design concepts and research findings to diverse audiences.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence and guide cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of business goals, technical constraints, and the ability to balance these factors in the design process.
  • Experience working in an agile development environment.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Knowledge of front-end development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
  • Previous experience leading design initiatives.
  • Detail and results oriented with a decisive approach to work required to ensure the deliverables are met on time with multiple assignments.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%, including domestic and international. The ability to travel by air is mandatory. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
