Product Designer
Hi 👋 I’m Chris, Head of Product Design at Ashby.
We’re looking for a versatile, intrinsically motivated Product Designer who’s excited about rethinking how modern software is designed. At Ashby, you’ll be part designer, part product manager, part consultant, and part design system manager — or some combination of all four.
We’re growing 100%+ year-over-year with customers like Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake. We have tens of millions in ARR, very low churn, strong retention, and years of runway. We’re backed by Y Combinator, Elad Gil, Lachy Groom, and more.
How We Work
We don’t follow the traditional PM → Designer → Engineer handoff model.
At Ashby, design ownership flexes based on the project. Sometimes engineers reuse components and follow documentation. Other times, designers fully own projects from concept through execution — including specs, updates, and resource alignment.
Design at Ashby is not about making every pixel decision. It’s about equipping the entire product team to make better decisions, while tackling the most complex design challenges ourselves.

Ashby builds intelligent hiring software for modern talent teams. Recruiters juggle thousands of tasks daily — scheduling, coordination, load balancing, stakeholder communication. We simplify and automate this complexity while providing powerful insights.
We design products that are approachable for beginners but extensible for power users. In many ways, spreadsheets set the bar — and we often replace them.
Your Qualifications
• 4+ years of product design experience in desktop SaaS
• Think from first principles rather than applying standard UX frameworks blindly
• Able to deconstruct complex user problems by narrowing solution space
• Strong intuition in solving usability challenges
• Resourceful and curious problem-solver
• Strong layout, IA, navigation, UI, and interaction design skills
• Strong visual craft and attention to detail

• Experience as a solo designer

On a Weekly Basis, You’ll
• Consult engineers on layout, typography, and flows
• Talk to customers and GTM teams to validate assumptions
• Use Figma to create visual artifacts for alignment
• Write detailed specification documents (“specs”)
• Own larger product initiatives (JTBD, IA, navigation, interaction)
• Build usability backlogs from customer feedback
• Refine and evolve our design system
Interview Process
• 30-minute intro call
• 45-minute portfolio review
• 75-minute live design exercise + app teardown
• 60-minute portfolio deep dive with a founder
• 90-minute team meet + teardown
We’ll simulate working together and dive deep into your thinking process. I’ll be your main point of contact and provide feedback even if we don’t move forward.
