Description

Researches, analyzes, designs, and tests customer-centric user experiences for new products and features, as well as improvements to existing ones, ensuring usability and achievement of business goals. Leads the execution of UX/UI projects and provides guidance to UX/UI Designers and other team members as needed.

1.    Turns business needs, processes, requirements, and/or user stories into simple, elegant, innovative and intuitive design solutions, balancing user needs with business goals and technological constraints.
2.    Analyzes site metrics and business needs to suggest experience improvements that will help improve overall engagement, usability and conversion.
3.    Leads User Experience (UX) research/design review sessions, explaining design concepts and decisions to product owners, development teams, and stakeholders. Gathers feedback and iterates on design solutions.
4.    Creates, maintains, updates, and enforces UX guidelines for the Big Lots eCommerce website, microsites, and other digital mediums.
5.    Creates, maintains, updates, and enforces the User Interface (UI) Design System, suggesting updates as needed.
6.    Creates wireframes, prototypes, and visual mockups of UI designs for the Big Lots eCommerce website and other digital properties. Creates site maps and customer journey maps.
7.    Responsible for providing UX/UI designs with interaction specifications to the Front End Development team.
8.    Ensures accessibility compliance within design solutions.
9.    Adept at writing user interaction text and messages in clear and concise language.
10.    Performs User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure design and experience is executed as specified.
11.    Responsible for conducting, designing, and participating in usability tests and research.
12.    Lead communicator of UX design trends, adds to the culture of creativity, and inspires others.
13.    Works with digital designers to conceptualize and design new websites, features, and digital experiences.

Qualification

1.    Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in interaction design, product design, web design, graphic design, or related field required.
2.    Minimum 5 years of experience as a User Interface Designer or User Experience Designer with an in-house, corporate, agency, or similar interactive/digital design/development team required.
3.    Expert proficiency in tools used to create User Interface designs and prototypes, specifically Adobe XD preferred.
4.    Complete fluency in Adobe Creative Suite required.
5.    Expert proficiency in tools used to create wireframes and prototypes (Axure, OmniGraffle, Balsamiq, or equivalent) required.
6.    Working knowledge of Web Development languages (HTML, Javascript, or CSS) required.
7.    Portfolio of work demonstrating the ability to create digital experiences and user interfaces required.
8.    Prior experience working with cross-functional teams and communicating design approaches to a non-design audience required.
9.    Excellent knowledge of Marketing/Retail best practices for the web with a particular focus on online retail preferred.
10.    Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects from concept through final production required.
11.    Skill in working with complex product requirements required.
12.    Skill in working with Development teams required.
13.    Skill in responsive web and mobile design principles and technologies required.
14.    Knowledge of accessibility standards required.
15.    Skill in working within an iterative, agile/scrum environment required.
16.    Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) as it relates to site design preferred.
17.    Experience participating in user research (usability tests, surveys, etc.) required.
