Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry, one of the most essential, underserved, and overlooked sectors in the country. We’re building products that solve real, everyday problems for the small business owners who keep America moving. Our design philosophy is simple: we don’t expect users to adapt to our product, we design products that adapt to our users.
As a Staff Product Designer at Mudflap, you’ll own major mobile and web initiatives, blending strategy with hands-on design. You’ll work directly with our Head of Product (co-founder) and executive team to shape product direction, solve complex problems, and deliver intuitive experiences that make a real difference in the lives of small business operators.
If you want ownership, strategic impact, and the chance to build intuitive, user-first solutions for an underserved industry, this is that opportunity.
Work Location:
This role can be primarily remote with occasional in-office collaboration days at our Palo Alto, CA location. Team members are expected to be available for scheduled on-site meetings or events a few times per quarter.
To support our team, we offer:
• Commuter benefits to ease your travel
• Lunches and snacks to keep you fueled
• A collaborative, high-growth environment where you’ll work closely with talented teammates across the company
Expectations (In this role, you will):
Lead & Own High-Impact Design Work
• Drive the strategy and execution of complex product experiences across mobile (iOS & Android) and web, turning ambiguity into clarity and shipping solutions that move the business forward.
Own the Problem Space End-to-End
• Use research, discovery, and iterative testing to define opportunities, validate direction, and ensure we solve the right problems in the right way.
Design Cohesive Mobile + Web Ecosystems
• Create connected, user-centered workflows across platforms, shaping the product holistically, not as separate surfaces.
Elevate Design Systems & Operations
• Advance our design system, patterns, and workflows; introduce new tools (including emerging AI) to raise quality, speed, and consistency across the team.
Shape Product & Business Strategy
• Work closely with the Head of Product (co-founder), Engineering leads, and Executive Leadership to influence roadmaps, align on priorities, and turn insights into strategic decisions.
Mentor & Influence Across Teams
• Raise the bar for design quality, provide guidance to senior designers, and champion cross-functional collaboration.
Experience (What we look for):
• 5+ years as a Senior Product Designer or higher, including ownership of initiatives with measurable business outcomes
• 5+ years of experience designing mobile apps for iOS and Android
• Significant experience leading early-stage research and problem space definition
• Strong storytelling and presentation skills; able to rally teams around design ideas
• Background in designing digital services that improve physical-world workflows (e.g., logistics, mobility, operations)
• Deep proficiency with modern design tools (Figma, prototyping libraries, etc.) and methods
Perks and Benefits (What we offer):
• Competitive salary and equity in a high-growth startup
• Multiple health benefit options
• Responsible Time Off
• 401(k) matching
• Opportunities and support for major career growth
• Annual Company offsite event (Mudfest!)
