This is a temporary opportunity for up to 12 months (day shift)

Job Summary
The User Experience (UX) Design Specialist will drive and coordinate a User Experience Design vision and strategy for the WSIB. Realizing this will require emphasis on building UX/UI alignment across teams, expanding and enhancing the WSIB design system to improve digital adoption, and elevating the UX practice through coaching, mentorship, and community-building.

This role will collaborate with the Customer Experience and Digital leadership, Digital Product Managers, Design Researchers, partner stakeholders and delivery teams to ensure consistency in feature and component implementation while fostering a strong UX culture through relationships, education and strategy.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

1. UX/UI Alignment & Design System Implementation

• Create and maintain UX/UI strategy and principles for designers and researchers to strategically guide design decision standards and approaches
• Lead the adoption and improvement of the organization's Digital Design System, ensuring consistency across digital products
• Build and execute a design system framework to identify, plan and incorporate existing and new design components, features and flows; work collaboratively with Digital, Accessibility, Communications and business team partners to build customer-centric design elements
• Lead efforts with IT partners to standardize component development via Design Tokens and ensure alignment to WSIB design, accessibility and brand standards
• Collaborate with UX designers, developers, and product teams to standardize UX/UI patterns and best practices
• Define and implement governance processes to maintain and evolve the Design System effectively
• Assess and evaluate digital procurements that intersect with front-end digital design implementations to ensure alignment and consistency with WSIB UX practices

2. Supporting Feature & Component Implementation

• Work closely with delivery teams to ensure UX consistency across multiple projects and products.
• Collaborate with developers and designers to oversee the implementation of reusable components and design patterns.
• Address UX challenges by facilitating discussions and recommending solutions that align with business and user needs.

3. Coaching, Mentorship & UX Practice Development

• Provide guidance and mentorship to UX designers, helping them refine their skills and approaches.
• Advocate for user-centered design methodologies and foster a culture of continuous learning within the UX team.
• Establish best practices and frameworks for improving UX research, prototyping, and usability testing.

4. Collaborating on Digital Product & Roadmap Strategy

• Partner with Digital Product Managers to align UX strategy with business goals and product roadmaps
• Provide UX insights and recommendations to prioritize feature development based on user needs and research.
• Support planning and reallocation of UX Analyst capacity and resourcing
• Ensure UX is embedded in the product development lifecycle from discovery to delivery.

5.Building a UX Community of Practice

• Create and lead a UX Community of Practice to connect internal and external designers.
• Organize workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions, and peer review activities to strengthen UX collaboration.
• Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design principles within the organization and external networks.

6. UX Design & Strategy Education

• Educate stakeholders across the organization on the value of UX design and strategy.
• Develop and deliver training sessions, presentations, and resources on UX principles, methodologies, and tools.
• Advocate for data-driven decision-making using user research, analytics, and testing.

7. Perform other duties as assigned or required

Job Requirements

1. Education

University completion at undergraduate level with a specialty focus in Computer Science or Communications or Human Factors or Graphic/Industrial/Service Design.

2. Experience

Five years prior experience in user experience/user interface design, web design and creation and management of design systems.
