Creative Director, Brand & UI Design
BX Studio
About BX Studio
BX Studio is a ~70-person digital agency and Webflow’s Enterprise Partner of the Year. We build websites that become revenue engines for companies including Reddit, Headspace, and Verifone
Why this role exists
Website redesigns are BX’s flagship engagement. They’re the projects that define our reputation, anchor our most valuable client relationships, and determine whether a prospect becomes a long-term retained partner. The creative quality of these builds is one of the biggest levers we have on the agency’s growth.
The Creative Director, Brand & UI Design owns that lever. You’re the senior creative leader on every redesign engagement — setting the visual and brand direction, leading the designers and UX strategists who execute it, and standing in front of clients to make the case for the work. Just as importantly, you own the design org behind the work: hiring the team, staffing it across projects, managing performance, and growing the bench as our pipeline grows.
What you’ll do
Lead creative on website redesigns end to end
- Own creative direction across our portfolio of redesign engagements — typically 14–16 week B2B website refresh projects spanning discovery, IA, UX, brand/digital style development, high-fidelity design, and developer handoff.
- Run creative discovery: facilitate client workshops, distill brand and audience inputs, and translate them into a clear creative direction the team can execute against.
- Lead digital style exploration — typography systems, color, motion, photography and illustration direction, component language — and pressure-test it on the hero before scaling across the site.
- Lead brand work that lives inside redesign engagements: logo refreshes, identity systems, color palette evolution, and the visual language that defines a B2B brand’s digital presence.
- Present creative direction, design rationale, and revisions to senior client stakeholders — CMOs, VPs of Marketing, and founders — with the confidence that comes from years of doing this work.
- Establish and protect the standard: every site that ships under your direction should look like a BX site.
Own the design team
- Manage the full design org — senior designers, designers, UX strategists, and any contracted specialists — including 1:1s, performance reviews, professional development, and remediation when needed.
- Own hiring: define the bench you need based on project pipeline, write JDs, screen portfolios, lead interviews, and make the calls. Build a team that can absorb growth without compromising quality.
- Own staffing: assign designers and UX leads to projects based on fit, capacity, and growth opportunities. Re-staff proactively when engagements slip, scope changes, or someone needs to be pulled.
- Set the bar for design quality across the org. Run design crits, review work in flight, and step in directly when something isn’t hitting the mark.
- Build the systems and rituals that make a creative team work — design reviews, internal critiques, portfolio rituals, brand and component libraries, internal Figma standards, and onboarding for new designers.
- Partner with the Director of Project Management on resourcing, capacity planning, and project health across the redesign portfolio.
Be a senior voice in new business and client expansion
- Join sales calls and proposal pitches as the senior creative voice — both to win new redesign engagements and to demonstrate the depth of creative leadership clients are buying.
- Shape proposal scope, creative approach, and timeline alongside the sales and account teams.
- Identify expansion opportunities on existing redesign accounts: extended brand work, microsites, additional templates, post-launch design systems.
Shape how BX makes websites
- Continuously refine our redesign methodology — discovery cadence, design phase structure, review rhythms, handoff to development — to ship better work faster.
- Maintain the BX house standard: the patterns, principles, and signature moves that make our work recognizable across very different B2B brands.
- Partner with the Head of Technology on design-to-development handoff quality, Webflow build standards, and emerging platform capabilities (Webflow, Framer, Sanity).
AI-Native by default
At BX, AI is infrastructure, not novelty. We expect this role to actively leverage AI across the design workflow — and to hire and train designers who can do the same:
- Use AI-assisted wireframing, content generation, and prototyping (Claude, Figma AI, Cloud Design, Paper, and emerging alternatives) to accelerate from brief to high-fidelity exploration.
- Build and maintain design system primitives — tokens, canonical components, markdown style guides — that let AI agents execute with brand fidelity on long-running work.
- Set the standard for how the design team uses AI in production: where it accelerates the work, where it doesn’t, and how to maintain craft quality at AI speed.
- Continuously evaluate emerging tools and bring back what improves quality, speed, or margin.
Who you are
- 5+ years in digital design with experience in a creative leadership role inside an agency. You’ve led website redesigns for serious B2B SaaS or tech brands and have the portfolio to prove it.
- Strong people manager. You’ve built and run design teams of 5+, hired your own benches, made hard performance calls, and developed designers into leaders.
- Deep brand and UI fluency. You move comfortably between identity work, digital style development, UX architecture, and high-fidelity component design — and you know which lever matters when.
- CMS fluent. You don’t need to build sites yourself, but you understand how design decisions translate to Webflow (or comparable platforms) and what makes a build sing.
- Exceptional client presence. You can hold a creative review with a CMO, defend strong work, and make a thoughtful case for why the recommendation is the recommendation.
- AI-fluent in production design workflows — not theoretical, not experimental.
- Sharp written and verbal communicator. Your design rationale lands as cleanly in a Slack message as it does in a presentation.
Structure & compensation
- Reports to the CEO and COO; partners closely with the Director of Technology, Director of Project Management, and Account Management leadership.
- Manages the full design team across redesign engagements (designers, senior designers, UX leads, contracted specialists).
- Full benefits, flexible PTO, and equipment budget.
