About Liftoff

Our Mission: Making the world a better, healthier place by gamifying fitness

Liftoff is the Duolingo of fitness, empowering anyone to start and stay at the gym so they develop healthier, more powerful habits.

We’re a mission-driven team that moves fast, owns the details, and does the work. We’re fully bootstrapped, profitable, and built from zero to $8M+ ARR in under two years.

About the Team

You'll join the Product team and work closely with the Head of Product, collaborating with Engineering, Design, and Growth

Design front-runs everything we build. The surfaces you make are what our experiments run on, what our retention depends on, and what over a million people open at the gym.

About the Role

We're hiring a Mobile UI/UX Designer to own app surfaces end-to-end: new flows, redesigns of what's already live, and the design system behind both.

UX is the priority. You'll diagnose and fix existing experiences, not only design new ones, and you'll back those calls with real user input.

Your core focus areas:

  • Mobile screen, flow, and component design
  • UX evaluation and repair of live surfaces
  • User interviews and feedback loops that drive design decisions
  • Design system growth and consistency
  • Graphic and visual assets, secondary to product design

What Success Looks Like

  • Flows that ship and hold up. PM ideas become mockups, then production surfaces, with nothing lost in between.
  • Existing UX measurably improved. Audits turn into fixes, and the fixes move the metric.
  • A running feedback loop. User interviews and community signal feed design decisions on a regular cadence.
  • A design system that scales: consistent visual language, reusable components, fewer one-offs.
  • Clear communication on what you designed, why, and what it did.

What You'll Do

  • Design mobile surfaces end-to-endTurn PM ideas and feature briefs into flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups in Figma
  • Build screens and components that balance playful, game-like design with product clarity and usability
  • Think in hierarchy, flow, accessibility, cognitive load, and micro-interactions
  • Evaluate and fix existing UXAudit live app surfaces and find where users stall, drop, or get confused
  • Revamp and upgrade existing screens with sharper UX and fresh visuals
  • Prioritize fixes by impact
  • Run the feedback loopPlan and run user interviews and usability sessions
  • Pull signal from community feedback, support threads, and product metrics
  • Turn findings into specific design changes, then close the loop after they ship
  • Own and expand the design systemMaintain a consistent, scalable visual language across the app
  • Build reusable components that work across screen sizes
  • Create graphic and visual assets (secondary)In-app graphics: splash screens, status cards, game-like items, collectibles
  • Vector character work for our mascot Jymbo, including new poses and outfits as features need them
  • Occasional graphics for landing pages and social
  • Communicate animation intent clearly. Storyboard or spec the simple motion your designs need, and execute it in Rive when it's straightforward.

You'll Likely Succeed If You Have

We don't expect you to check every box. We care most about ownership, judgment, and shipping.

  • Strong UX fundamentals. You can explain why a layout works, not just build it.
  • Deep Figma fluency: Auto Layout, Components, Variables, Prototyping
  • Mobile-first design experience on shipped apps or game interfaces
  • Hands-on user research experience. You've run interviews or usability tests and changed a design because of what you heard.
  • Evidence you've shipped something real: 3+ years in consumer mobile, strong industry experience with following portfolio, or a built product with real users
  • Clear written communication. You can document decisions, write specs, and share learnings.
  • Comfort in a startup environment: short feedback loops, big ownership, no red tape

Bonus Attributes

  • Video game UI/UX background or a real passion for it
  • Illustration experience and a sharp sense of visual humor
  • Experience maintaining and evolving a design system
  • Shipped in health, wellness, social, or gaming
  • Created shareable or viral graphics for apps or games
  • Can execute simple animations yourself. Rive for stateful animations, Adobe After Effects + Lottie for motion graphics and VFX.
  • Can implement your own designs (React Native / Expo, Tailwind). Useful, though not part of the core job.
  • Sustained depth in a craft, sport, or community outside of work

Tools & Tech Stack

You don't need prior experience with every tool, but you should be excited to work in this stack.

  • Design: Figma (primary), Adobe After Effects + Lottie, Rive
  • App: React Native (Expo), Typescript
  • Backend: Supabase, Vercel, tRPC, Node.js
  • Monetization: RevenueCat, Superwall
  • Experimentation / Analytics: Statsig
