Cliff Kuang is a senior-staff designer at Google DeepMind, working in the office of the CEO. Thanks to various 0-to-1 projects in Search, Assistant, Gemini, Android, and others, he is one of Google’s top 1% of employees by patents held.

Previously, he worked on Android’s AI features, and on innovation efforts in Search and Gemini. He is also the author of User Friendly: How the Hidden Rules of Design Are Changing the Way We Live, Work, and Play, which the New York Times called "a tour de force" and which Amazon and Fortune named one of the year’s best books. It is taught in many universities around the world.

Before his design career, he was a journalist. During those 10 years, he edited over 7,000 stories about design and technology—first as the founding editor of Fast Company's design site, which won a National Magazine Award under his leadership, and then as an editor at WIRED.
